Belize Fishing
Great weather, a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of action are all part of the Hatchet Caye fishing experience. It is an event you’ll have fond memories of for the rest of your life.
Deep Sea Fishing
Hatchet Caye not only has some of the finest flats fishing, it has deep sea fishing grounds as well. We are only minutes from one of the most prolific blue water ecosystems. It is teaming with coral and abundant fish and is in pristine condition; still virtually untouched by man.
Schools of squid and flying fish congregate just offshore to feed on the tidal currents in the cuts and become baitfish for ocean roaming predators such as Yellow Fin and Black Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, Sailfish, and Blue and White Marlin. We troll for billfish in our Tournament Sport Fountain and have yet to return empty handed. Full and half day adventures available, on your schedule, weather permitting. Bait, tackle, snacks, and soft drinks are provided. Bill fish are catch and release. Other species can be on your evening’s dinner table.
Flats Fishing
Only a saltwater fly fisherman can understand the logic of the low-odds game of pursuing hard to catch, nearly invisible, inedible Bonefish by waving a stick in the air. The difference at Hatchet Caye is that the Bonefish pursuit is no longer low-odds. Hatchet Caye is surrounded by coral reef with grassy flats on the south and west.
These extensive flats are an ideal spot for Bonefish, Tarpon, jacks, and Barracuda. Schools of twenty to thirty Bonefish live around the island and are constantly feeding on these flats. These Bones typically weigh between three and six pounds and, pound for pound, are the strongest fighting fish in the world. Those equipped with a 9-weight rod and a handful of Clousers, Gotchas and Charlies will enjoy days of angling excitement searching for fins and clouds along the shores of paradise. It’s not all that exceptional to hook a dozen Bonefish before lunch. And, you don’t have to travel hours over rough water to reach great fishing grounds. At Hatchet Caye, they are literally right outside your door and you can see Bones and Permit tailing from your sofa.
No more dry box lunches and hot beer. When you are in the center of the action at Hatchet Caye, you simply come back to the restaurant fora full lunch. Full and half day adventures available. Spinning tackle is provided. Bring your fly rod and favorite flies. We suggest McCrab – size 2 & 4, Del Brown’s permit fly – 2 to 1/0, Enrico Puglisi’s EP Crab, 2 to 1/0, Gotcha – size 6, Matthew’s Turneffe Crab – size 6, Crazy Charlie – tan or pink – size 6 & 8, Rootbeer Shrimp – size 4, and a variety of Clousers – size 8 & 8. Fly fishing instruction is available.
Inshore Fishing
We also do drift and bottom fishing. Bottom fishing is probably one of the easiest methods to learn if you are new to salt water fishing and want to catch fish. We provide bait, tackle, snacks, and soft drinks. Common species are mackerel, grouper, snapper, jacks, shark, and Barracuda. Trips are tailored to your specific desires.
